The world of Evensfell is referred to either as 'The Vale' by the Valemen or the 'Twilight Isles' by the Ardent. It goes by other names with other kingdoms. While we will add more to this brief synopsis over time, both on this page and with new forum threads, the most detailed histories of the world will be told through our written storylines.

The Evensfell
Long ago, the twin Eventide and Weathermen empires reached across the Twilight Isles. These empires vanished during the catastrophic events of the First Great Winter. With their disappearance and the wear of perpetual freeze, the great civilizations and trade networks of the old world died.

These events are referred to as the 'Evensfell,' or the fall of the Eventide. The implication of the word is lost greatness, hopelessness, and a sense that the world is growing perpetually darker with no hope of recovery. Though kingdoms and empires did emerge after the First Great Winter, these lacked the high culture of the old world and were marked by brutality and hardship.

The events leading to the Evensfell held particular significance to the Ardent, the oldest and smallest of the still-existent kingdoms. They emigrated to the Twilight Isles from the Eastern Continent as it collapsed and fell into the sea. Any remnants of their homeland were lost to the Blackened Reach and the creature imprisoned there.

The Ardent, once allies to the Eventide, were the only glimmer of the light of the old world. Though they lost much during the First Great Winter, some of their histories were preserved in their monasteries. The rise of the restless Atrian bloodline in Ardent gave them the initiative to start reclaiming culture and technology from the old world. From here, they reignited many of the old trade passages and built trade cities upon the ancient sea-walls and sea-cities of the old world.

It was at the height of this progress that the Second Great Winter fell across the Twilight Isles.

The Firefly King Rise of the Valemen
During the Second Great Winter, kingdoms atrophied into starving tribes, struggling -- often failing -- to survive. The spine of civilization shattered under forty years of relentless cold: The darkest years of the Evensfell had come.

The Valemen, known only to the outside world as the barbarians of the north, fared better than most. A combination of unusual physical strength, determination, and knowledge from their old relations with the Ardent gave them an advantage in handling the harsh environment.

Under the direction of the Firefly King, a Valemen warlord with a thirst for civilization, a new kingdom has been growing in the shadow of Mount Sovereign. Protected by steel and stone and the uncanny strategic decisions of their king, the Valemen are on the verge of cultural explosion.

The Firefly King has decreed any Valeman family that wishes to explore, conquer, and spread civilization will be given rights to land and lordship.
